We have seen recently the cruise line trying to do their bit for the environment by completing e-tickets and not sending shore excursion brochures. While this has upset many passengers I think this is a brilliant idea. If you don’t have a computer in your house we all know at least one person who has access to one. There even internet cafe if you get really desperate!!

Now Celebrity is taking up another notch by trying to educate passengers on board with a series of on board seminaries giving the environmental impacts of cruising.

Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, senior vice president of hotel operations, explained: "Our guests tend to have a keen sense of curiosity and interest in learning new things, and Oceans Ahead offers them a behind-the-scenes look at our shipboard operations across the fleet, with a special focus on Celebrity's sustainability practices."

An insight into how the ships work and how exactly the cruise line is trying and going to reduce its carbon footprint will be reduced in its Oceans Ahead programme. Passengers will be also be able to find out how Celebrity is investing in marine conservation, education and technology through the Ocean fund.

Muster drills but without the hassle!

How annoying do you find it when you have to complete the muster drill but first you have to mess around getting your life jacket when all you want to do is get the drill over and done with and get on with your holiday??!!

Well Royal Caribbean International have done away with the need for passengers to fetch their lifejackets from the cabins on the Oasis of the seas for the drills and quick to follow suite are Norwegian Cruise Lines.

They are introducing a new procedure whereby on hearing the emergency alarm, passengers go straight to the muster station, where they'll hear all the usual safety info and will hopefully learn how to put on a life jacket.

NCL's new muster drill will be rolled out to all ships bar Pride of America.

Hurricane 2010 cruising season!

An “active to extremely active” hurricane season is expected for the Atlantic Basin this year according to the seasonal outlook issued by The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a federal agency focused on the condition of the oceans and the atmosphere.

EEK!!

The typical hurricane season runs effective from June 1st through November 30th.

La Nina is defined as a lower surface temperature usually 3-5 degrees Celsius, this is normally the years when hurricane season occur. The effect of these conditions is a typically wet winter in the U.S. particularly in the Midwest, and an increased likelihood of hurricanes as these weather systems head towards the Atlantic and combine with tropical air coming from Africa.

What does it mean to predict an active hurricane season? The average hurricane season contains 11 named storms (top winds of 39 mph or higher), six hurricanes (top winds of 74 mph or higher) and two major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of at least 111 mph).

The NOAA is predicting 14-23 named storms: including 8 - 14 hurricanes of which 3 - 7 could be major hurricanes. With this is mind this could mean we could be in for one of the most active seasons on record!!

We do need to bear in mind though that NOAA can often be innocently incorrect but because predicting weather is incredibly difficult.

Now what happens in the event of a hurricane?

Well the cruise line will substitute different ports. Yes you might miss out on certain ports of call but this is the risk when you book in the hurricane season and hurricane season is no secret so we often see bargain prices.

Also the cruise ships are experts at avoiding these storms, so you should still have a great cruise. You just have to accept the possibility of a little uncertainty.

Chocoholic’s chaos on RCI!!

I have to admit I am a complete chocoholic!! I don’t think there are many of us out there who don’t enjoy a good box of chocs. But how much chocolate can you eat?

Well Royal Caribbean International cruise line is putting us to the test as they have just introduced a ‘completely decadent’ new breakfast feature being 'the chocolate breakfast'!

Yum yum I say!!

It appears that I am not the other one who thinks this as it has been a tremendous hit according to Lisa Bauer - RCI's Operations Manager, who said no less than 1,200 people showed up for last week’s offering aboard Oasis of the Seas which has prompted the breakfast to be now rolled out to the rest of the fleet.

Ironically, the idea was put forward by fitness-fanatic Royal Caribbean president and CEO Adam Goldstein, who competes in 10K races when he’s not pounding opponents at the ping pong table.

It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I have to say I could defiantly eat and drink hot chocolate, chocolate milkshakes, chocolate pancakes with whipped cream, chocolate waffles with caramel-banana topping.… for my breakfast!! Could you?!

MSC Abandoned their mandatory service charges!!

Hooray!!

Finally a cruise line that listens to their customers!! MSC have abandoned their mandatory service charges which they put in to place earlier this year. Many cruises felt this was unnecessary and I understand where they are coming from. I think and I know the majority of my customers like to be able to use their own discretion when it comes to gratuities.

Their gratuities which are now optional. MSC have issued the following guide lines for the amounts:

Caribbean and Eastbound Transatlantic sailings: $12.00 USD per adult per day.

Mediterranean, Northern Europe and Westbound Transatlantic sailings: €uro 7.00 per adult per day

MSC Cruises have issued a statement to state that they will automatically add a modest service charge to your onboard account, which will be based on the number of days in which services are actually rendered and vary by itinerary.

There is no service charge for children under the age of 14, whereas, guests between the age of 14 and 17 will pay 50% less than the adult fare.

Service charges are subject to change and may vary based on the ship’s onboard currency.

Should you wish to make adjustments, you may do so by contacting the Guest Relation Manager at any point during your cruise.

MSC have also stated a 15% service charge is automatically added to beverage purchases. They do not recommend tipping individually.

I think this is really good that they have listen to the customer feedback and done something about it. Let’s hope other cruise lines will listen to their customer feedback and act on it as well.

Cunards Queen Eizabeth centrepiece unveiled!

The greatly anticipated new edition to the Cunard fleet, the Queen Elizabeth which is due to depute this autumn, unveiled the stunning centrepiece of the grand lobby would be a David Linley Artwork.

David Linley, son of the late Princess Margaret has especially commissioned the artwork along with famous photographer Lord Snowdon – whose company specializes in the design and creation of fine furniture and marquetry.

The panel was unveiled yesterday in London, and will be shipped this summer to the Fincantieri shipyard at Monfalcone, Italy, where the ship is under construction. It will take four days to install, Cunard said.

The amazing work of art has many different types of wood involved in the creation, Featured woods are Madrona, Indian ebony, American walnut, grey ripple sycamore, burr ash, bird's eye maple, satin walnut, ash, burr walnut and Macassar ebony - all utilized to depict the evocative image of one of Cunard's most elegant Queens.

Queen Elizabeth will be the second largest Cunarder ever built and will join her sisters, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria, as part of the youngest fleet in the world. The first Queen Elizabeth was one of Cunard's greatest ships, and the new Queen Elizabeth will reflect her predecessor in interior grandeur, décor and style, but with a modern twist.

Seabourn Sojourn godmother annouced!

The Yachts of Seabourn have announced the godmother of their newest member of the fleet 'Sojourn' is Twiggy!

The naming ceremony hosted at the River Thames on Friday 4th June 2010will also see the Yachts of Seabourn donate Seabourn Sojourn to Breast Cancer Haven as the venue for an exclusive fundraising gala event to celebrate the charity’s 10th anniversary.

Twiggy has comment: “I am incredibly excited that Seabourn has asked me to be Godmother to Seabourn Sojourn.” said Twiggy. “Her stylish interiors and sleek silhouette make her one of the most elegant yachts at sea. I am thrilled that Seabourn is combining their inaugural celebrations with Breast Cancer Haven’s 10 year anniversary – it really is a wonderful organization.’’

BA Strike 2010 again!!

Can you believe it!! More travel disruption!!

Now we have got rid of the ash cloud, well for the moment at least... BA has announced several strikes due to the long running dispute!!

Cabin crew will walk out for four separate five-day strikes in May and June. This is due to Unite members rejecting a fresh deal for cabin crew earlier this month.

The first strike will begin on 18 May, ending on 22 May, with the three further strikes beginning on 24 May, 30 May and 5 June. The strikes will mean that a total of 20 days which include spring bank holiday and school half-term holidays will be affected.

In a statement, Unite's joint general secretaries Derek Simpson and Tony Woodley blamed BA for forcing cabin crew to again resort to industrial action.

"There can be no industrial peace without meaningful negotiations and while management victimises trade unionists and uses disciplinary procedures in a witch-hunt," they said, claiming that a Unite approach made over the weekend had been rejected.

"The seven days' notice period is sufficient time for BA management to do the sensible thing and reopen meaningful negotiations," they added.

Cunards QE2 smuggling secrets revealed!

For the loyal Cunard passengers it may come as a shock to the news that has emerged that in the 1970's the IRA used the beautiful QE2 liner to smuggle weapons and explosives!!

Brendan Hughes a former member of the merchant Navy, revealed the secret in an interview with a Boston researcher in 2008.

Mr Hughes helped crew members who supported the IRA 'cause' by hoarding guns and grenades!

Since the confession has been ousted another IRA member has come forward to confirm the statement to be true and even adding that rifles were taken off the liner by being hidden in the lining of long coats!! It all sounds a bit 1920's to me. I certainly wouldn't want to be caught in the middle of the smugglings.

But there is a silver lining to this story as on one the missions he met his wife! Bet he didn't tell her at first what he was really doing on board.

Cunard have stated the smuggling operations were carried out WITHOUT consent and they had been unaware of the situation.

Hearing a story like this does make me think what else has gone on over the years of cruising and travelling. Or in fact does anything else happen in the present day? I feel it also makes us aware and understand the importance of high security measures needed.

Fred Olsen fuel surcharges alert!

Is it not enough that petrol prices are rising and costing an arm and a leg but now with the price of Brent crude oil being so expensive Fred Olsen are being forced to put in place a fuel surcharge which will take effect from Wednesday 5th May 2010.

This is due to the increase in fuel prices. They will be charging £3 per person per night with a maximum charge of up to £60 per person. £1.50 per person per night for third and fourth passengers with their maximum being £30 per person.

Some customers may get a nice surprise on board as if the Brent crude oil falls back to £45 per barrel or below average across the month prior to the date of departure the fuel cost supplement will be refunded back to the passenger in the form of on board credit.

Pirates and cruising - not a good comibnation!

Have you ever thought about pirates when booking or taking your cruise? Well the threat of an attack is more common now than ever.

Yes there are certain areas which are more affected such as the Gulf of Aden which is notorious for those pesky pirates.

The advise that is currently being given by P&O is whilst sailing through the Gulf of Aden according to the Daily Mail is to have routine blackouts!! This is the latest way to avoid trouble following the spate of Somalian pirate attacks.

Between 6.30 and 7 guests are instructed not to turn off their lights in their cabins or not to venture on deck.

A spokesman for P&O explained to the Daily Telegraph "Cruise ship security is the industry's highest priority."

I remember watching Ross Kemps documentary recently on Somalian pirates. It was really interesting and certainly opened my eyes to the dangers which are out there.

I have heard that pirates tend to stay away from the cruise ships as they are too hard to contain, where as the shipping vessels are easier to board and with not many crew on board easier to take over and control without distress signals getting out.

As I’m sure everyone is aware of the current disruption with the Iceland volcano erupting.

We have been fielding many calls from worried travellers who are trying to get home and also passengers who are due to travel.

I also have been searching the internet for current news updates and stumbled across a site which is claiming that the volcanic disruption is actually a cover-up and airspace is closed due to 14 sinister UFO sightings!

I have to say I am a believer in UFO's but could this really be a major cover-up? Have we watched too many sci-fi films and like to let our imaginations run riot?

Do you believe this could be a cover up? Are you stuck abroad or waiting to go on your holidays?

Whichever the real reason for all the airspace to be closed lets all keep our fingers crossed it finishes soon and everyone can go on holiday or come home!

My review of the P and O Azura.

I have been lucky enough to spend a night on the new P & O ship: Azura on Friday 9th April for an agent’s night and I’m so pleased I did! I think she is a beautiful ship with some fantastic facilities on board.

We were lucky to have the great British weather on our side for once, so as we pulled up alongside her we were able to see her in all her glory.

Once on board we went to our cabins and had a lovely surprise of being in a CC superior deluxe balcony stateroom. I though the cabin was really spacious with plenty of wardrobe space and cupboards. I was really impressed with the bathroom space, plenty of room to move around and get ready. Not like swinging a cat around! The sitting area had it’s own plasma TV, tea making facilities, large settee and coffee table. The bed was very comfy which for my 3 hours sleep was very important! Also being a girly girl I was impressed with the dressing table area with UK plug sockets and its own super hairdryer which came in use as mine died!

We then made our way to the buffet restaurants Verona and Venezia for a spot of lunch. The buffet was nice and varied covering plenty of different tastes. Such as salads, cold cuts, pastas, meat dishes, pies. The list goes on! I was very naughty and sampled the deserts which were delicious!

We were able to check out different cabin grades ranging from Suites to single inside cabins and all were very presentable with light and airy decor. I have to say I was impressed with the single passenger staterooms sizes. The inside cabin particularly was very good. I know I would have no hesitation recommending these.

The pool areas and spa were lovely. The sea screen was larger in life than I thought it would be. What a fab way to watch a movie and pass an evening away. The Retreat area, which is an open air spa terrace being one of the favourite areas on the ship. It was so relaxing and with open air cabanas, sun loungers, their own spa swimming pool and whirlpools. This an adult’s only area with a supplement charged for usage. I know if I was booked on the Azura I would either be drinking a smoothie in the day sunning myself or sipping a glass of bubbly under the stars on an evening!

Being a real foodie it was important for me to check out the different restaurants and bars available on board. We saw the sensuous Sindhu restaurant by Atul Kochhar which showcases fine dining Indian style which was stunning. If I ever go on board again I will defiantly be booking myself a table in this restaurant. The glass house is a wine bar and restaurant with wine guru Olly Smith. Olly has also been to Italy especially and blended the Azura house wines. Many wines are also served by the glass which is fab as you get to sample many different wines. We ate at the Meriden restaurant for dinner which was good. The choice was fairly limited but being a one off evening I expected this.

On the evening we saw many of the bars in action such as Broadies a British pub theme bar. Malabar which is a modern Indian themed lounge with a small dance area and stage able to accommodate musicians. For a more relaxed evening there is the Playhouse theatre spanning over two decks which is very grand. The planet bar which is up on deck 18 and features audiovisual wall showing footage of manmade and natural wonders of the world. We ended our night in Manhattan where we danced the night away to a variety of different tunes.

All in all my feelings for the Azura is that she is a beautiful ship with many different choices available for dining, drinking, relaxing and entrainment. So whatever you taste or mood of the day you will be able to find something for you!

P & O's newest addition to their fleet the 'Azura' was due in for arrival yesterday to Southampton.

The maiden voyage is on 12th April 16 nights Mediterranean itinerary of which there are still a few cabins left.

I’m very excited as I am travelling down to Southampton on Friday for an agent’s night on board the ship.

We get to look at the different grades of cabins, sample a dinner in one of the restaurants and check out all the different facilities on board.

The Exclusive Black Sea

The popular Black Sea's are going to become more available to voyagers as Ukrainian ports are dropping their fees by up to 50% in a bid to lure in more cruise business.

Also 100% discount will also be granted from the third call of any vessel, of one cruise company to a single port throughout the year. Talk about encouraging tourism!

The Black Sea's have many beautiful forgotten ports of call which are on many seasoned cruisers wish lists such as: Istanbul Turkey, Trabzon Turkey, Odessa Ukraine and Yalta Ukraine.

Titanic menu tonight anyone?

How do you fancy dining on one of the dishes which would have been served on the Titanic?

If so then you can purchase a cookbook full of dishes that were served aboard the tragic ship. The cookbook has been written by former restaurateur Yvonne Hume, who is the great -niece of the first violinist in the ship's orchestra Mr John Law Hume, who drowned on the crossing at the age of 21. Mr Hume was one of a small group of musicians who played on deck in an attempt to quell the rising panic as women and children were loaded into lifeboats – a scene that was recreated in James Cameron's 1997 Oscar-winning film Titanic.

The book has much detail of not only the dishes but when and to whom they were served to, for example honey-roasted salmon with mousseline sauce, was served in first class on the evening of 14 April.

We can see how different the classes dined with their food experiences:

First Class: Hors d'oeuvre varies, oysters, salmon with mousseline sauce and cucumber, filet mignons lili, roast duckling, sauté of chicken lyonnaise, pâté de foie gras, Waldorf pudding, peaches in Chartreuse jelly, chocolate and vanilla éclairs.

Second Class: Consomme, tapioca, baked haddock with sharp sauce, spring lamb with mint sauce, roast turkey with cranberry sauce, curried chicken and rice, green peas, pureed turnips, wine jelly, plum pudding, coconut sandwich, American ice cream, assorted nuts, coffee.

Third Class: Vegetable soup, roast pork with sage and onions, ragout of beef with potatoes and pickles, green peas, cabin biscuits, bread and butter, apricots, tea.

The book will be available to purchase from 14th April in hardback.

I recently read about travellers being attacked whilst on holiday. While I am horrified by this news it does not surprise me. While we are visiting countries who are less lucky than us with higher crime rates it is uneventable that assaults and thefts will occur more often.

One of the worse ports of call at the moment is the beautiful Bahamas.

Following an increase in violent crime rates, certain cruise lines are feeling the need to warn their passengers to be "mindful of their personal safety" when going ashore in the Bahamas.

Bahamian officials, including Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, got together to publicly acknowledge the problem and have taken steps to address it by putting more police on the streets in Nassau - a particular hot spot for assaults.

The latest victim, an American tourist, was attacked in his hotel room on Harbour Island (60 miles from Nassau) by two men wielding a cutlass. Thankfully they survived, and the suspects are in custody.

We must make sure we use common sense when visiting other countries such as not flashing the cash or expensive pieces of jewellery. Ensure we do not wonder off on to the back streets and unpopulated areas. Make sure you use a bag that zips up and hold on to it!

Fawlty towers, Doh it's Island Escape!

Have you been on the Island Escape?

How would you rate your cruise experience?

Hopefully it will be better than a couple from the Isle of Wight. They are comparing it the famous Fawlty Towers!! They are claiming many errors and poor conditions throughout their Christmas and New Years cruise.

But they are not the only unhappy passengers of this ship as as many as 70 passengers are also threatening to sue Thomson.

The Big Goodbye to Ocean Village crashes!

Are you worried you might have missed the boat for the last Ocean Village sailing which went on sale on Monday?

Fear not, the system suffered a major meltdown with the demand for cabins. Ocean Village decided to be fair on all customers, they withdrew the sailing until 10am Wednesday.

The Big Goodbye to Ocean Village

I have taken my first phone call today for prices on the Ocean Village Big Goodbye cruise.

If you didn’t know already Ocean Village are going to be leaving us shortly.

They have released details of the final voyagers which are:

Both of the itineraries end in Singapore with Ocean village offering four different options of extras:

Safety issues!

I took a call over the weekend from a customer looking to book her summer cruise with me. She mentioned she didn’t want to attend the safety briefing as the last one she went to went on for hours.

I was surprised to hear this as all of the ones I have attended have lasted about half an hour and can be quiet a giggle. Also when travelling on a plane you have to take note of the safety briefing before taking off so why should it be any different for you cruise holiday?

It is very important to attend these as they give you all the information that you would need in case of an emergency. It is highly unlikely that you would ever need to use this information but much better to be safe than sorry I say!

On the briefings which are normally in the theatres, you learn where your muster station is, this is the meeting place where you go on an emergency. Where your life jacket is stored and how to put your life jacket on, this can be quiet amusing!

The briefing is completed when setting sail so there should be no reason why you cannot attend.

SOS Missing passport!

HELP!

My friend called me over the weekend to say she had lost her passport and was there anything I could advise. She is going on a dream holiday within a week and was beside herself.

Luckily I have never had one of my customers ask this before.

She had looked everywhere and turned her house upside down in the process!

She had called UKPS and got a day appointment at Peterborough which is her nearest passport office but because the passport was lost they could not guarantee they would be able to replace it on the same day service.

I asked if she had travel insurance in hope of saving her money if they could not replace the passport and she was covered.

Today though I have received a text saying she had found the offending item under a pile of CD's!!

Please let this be a lesson to all holiday makers to ensure you keep your passport safe and that you have the 6 months validity from your date of return otherwise your dream holiday could turn into the holiday from hell!

I am taking a lot of calls from my past passengers and also new clients who are interested in beating the rush and getting their summer holiday booked for 2011.

By doing this they will get the pick of cabins and often extra perks such as car parking and on board credit included.

The itineraries for Summer 2011 have not all been released yet but are imminent. Usually the brochures are launched in March - April and passengers can pre-register with us so when the cruises go on sale we are able to book their requirements straight away!

Well I’m back from my fantastic trip to Paris and what an amazing time I've had.

We managed to take in many of the tourist sites of which I spoke about. We went to the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Sacré-Coeur and also took in the Lido show on the Champs Elysees!

We tried out the metro, RER and taxis. Make sure when you are using the taxis you keep a bearing of where you are travelling as one of our drivers thought we were typical tourist and tried to take a long way!!

Also when using the metro and buying tickets buy them 10 at a time as this will save you money than buying singles.

Another tip to be aware at the moment is the Eiffel Tower only has one lift corner working and one stair well working. The wait was so long I would say to get there when it opens or just before.

Bon Voyage Experience with Princess

I've took many calls in the past from my customers who would like to take their family members on board to show them the ship they will be sailing on for their holiday when they drop them off and let's face it to make them a bit jealous!!

I've always had to explain that due to security measures this is not possible. But Princess have just released that they will be permit holidaymakers to bring their guests onboard for four hours prior to the ship's departure, where they will be able to lunch in the dining room, take a guided tour and get a taste for cruising.

Bon Voyage will cost each part-time passenger around US$39 (£25), although this price will be deducted if they are swayed to book up a cruise with the operator.

I think this is a brilliant way of introducing someone to cruising without any commitment. Also it is a real perk to be able to take on board relatives or friends if the sailing is a special occasion and share part of the experience.

At the moment Princess Cruises are introducing this in the ports of Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale, before being extended to New York, San Francisco and Seattle.

Let's hope they will extend it to many other ports of calls and other cruise lines will follow suit.

Do you fancy booking a little break before your summer holidays?

Well how does a three night break on the Independence of the Sea's going to Paris sound? It’s departing on the 2nd June for three nights.

Paris is a beautiful city and I can say that honestly as I was born then and am off there this weekend!!

There are so many fantastic sites to take in with all types of interests covered. You have the world famous Eiffel Tower, Louvre with the beautiful Mona Lisa, Arch de Triumph and Sacré-Coeur. That is only a few places of interest and that is not even considering taking the slower pace down the Champs-Elysees and enjoying a beer in a cafe watching the world go past.

You can get from Le Havre to Paris on the train and book your shore excursion directly with Royal Caribbean. Or you can do it yourself, book trains on the SNCF website. A return ticket can cost between £15-£30 and the duration is between 2hrs 10 mins and 2 hrs and 40 mins.

Ill post some of my photos on my return on Tuesday to give you all some ideas for your own trip.

When in Rome........................

I am getting many calls for customers booking up for their Mediterranean cruises this summer. Many are interested in the port of Rome and I can understand why as it is such a historic city.

I went the summer before last and took my husband for a surprise for his birthday in July! We really enjoyed it but were pretty exhausted afterwards as it’s such a busy city with a fast pace of life.

We spent three nights in the city and chose our hotel location to be as central as possible but when you’re on a tight timescale of literally a few hours you need to make the most of it, if it’s one of your ports of call for the day. Especially as the port of Rome, Civitavecchia is about 60 minutes transfer away from Rome its self.

This can mean for most passengers’ it is a good idea to do the shore excursions arranged by the cruise line as you will then not have the stress of getting in and out of the city in time.

Another idea to consider is if you are starting your cruise from Rome to go out early or stay later with a pre or post cruise stay.

We visited the main tourist highlights but one of my favourite was the Vatican and Sistine chapel. We had a guided tour and it was so interesting. I’m pleased we did the tour as if we hadn't we would have missed a lot of the important information. We also saw the Coliseum, the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain, all which I can recommend to go and see. Especially the ice cream shops by the Trevi Fountains!!

It is also worth considering the heat. I was shocked at how hot it actually was, and I love the heat. But when you’re sightseeing and doing lots of walking it’s a different story. I would defiantly recommend wearing light cotton clothes, taking a bottle of water and sun hat.

Queen to set sail!

The Queen to due to take to the waters again after a 12 year break from cruising.

It is reported she is due to charter the Hebridean Princess at the end of July. Prince Philip and other members of the Royal Family will join her on the ship, which has 30 cabins.

The two week cruise will be happening at the end of July before heading for Balmoral and is reported to cost at least £150,000 per week.

The 200ft vessel is owned by All Leisure Group, and P&O's former boss Lord Sterling who has been put in a sticky situation as they have to cancel other passengers bookings.

I know if it was me I would be pretty unhappy to have my hard earned summer holiday cancelled by the Queen! It is said passengers are being given different travel dates and compensated generously.

Says Lee Hayhurst, the cruise expert of Travel Weekly magazine: 'Although the Hebridean Princess is small for a cruise ship, she is quite luxurious in an old-fashioned, traditional kind of way.

All the cabins are decked out in tartan, they have dark, canopied beds and there is a lot of polished wood around.

Are you a first time cruiser but just not sure if it's for you then I have the answer! Book on a mini cruise to get the feel!

Black Watch Refurbishment!

Black Watch has completed her recent dry dock in December 2009

and returns to service following some major refurbishment work.

The work included a major refurbishment of the ship’s public areas,

including a new casual dining area, which has been created in the

space where the Braemar Lounge and Garden Café were situated.

The transformed area is now the Braemar Garden, a casual dining

area with seating for 120 persons, and replaces the Garden Café

which seated 80 persons. One section of this newly created dining

area is screened off, creating a 40 seat room that can be used for

private dining. This new area has been completely refitted with

new soft furnishings, a new bar, and buffet.

Other areas of the ship have also received new soft furnishings,

including the Neptune Lounge, Pipers Bar, Glentanar Restaurant

and the Observatory Lounge. In addition, many cabin bathrooms

have been refitted.

On the technical side, Black Watch has also had her last three open

lifeboats replaced by two covered boats.

This means that some previously restricted views from cabins will

now be unobstructed views.

Christmas Parties!

Have you had your Christmas party yet? Our company is going on the Balmoral on a mini cruise this weekend to Amsterdam! It is brilliant to be going on a mini cruise so we are able to experience a different ship and facilities. We are all very excited and busy planning our outfits and what sites to take in.

I am lucky enough to have gone to Amsterdam this April for a long weekend and had a brilliant time.

There are many different places of interest such as Anne Frank museum, the Heineken museum, river boat trips, flower markets, cafes. The list is endless!

I’m sure there will be some sore heads and embarrassing photos which I will update after the Christmas break.

Pets at Sea!

Did you know Cunard permits you to take cats and dogs onboard the Queen Mary 2?!

This is really handy for passengers who are relocating. The pets are kept in Kennels and are not allowed to visit any guest area of the ship, this caused one of by customers worry after her poodle that has slept in the same bed as her for the last few years could not so she refused to go! But im sure many pets owners will not mind this though however.

There is also a list of conditions such as being fitted with Microchip etc.

As myself mummy to my Millie if I ever relocated to NYC this would be a brilliant option.

Our Oscars!

We are the proud winners of the travel equivalent awards of an Oscar, the world travel award! We were presented the prestigious award for the world’s leading cruise travel agent at a glitzy award ceremony at the Grosvenor hotel, London.

I was one of the lucky people selected to attend the ceremony and was not disappointed by the glamour as we were joined by the current competing Miss Worlds! We had Miss Cyprus on our table. Live entertainment which included performances from Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson, international comedian and actor Bobby Davro and British Socialite Tamara Beckwith.

Flight upgrades, a little piece of luxury?

Is it really worth upgrading on your flights?
Well I have just been lucky enough to be chosen for a complimentary upgrade on the new Emirates airbus to business class on my recent holiday and the experience was amazing. I loved every single minute and it made a massive difference to the start of my holidays. It can be very expensive to upgrade your flights but sometimes it can really make a difference to your holidays particularly if you're fairly tall and don't want to be feeling like a sardine!

Sometimes it can be nearly a necessity with the terrible seat pitches the airlines offer now so the prices, if the deal is good can be out weighed. Especially when you have the added benefits of access to the lounges with food and beverages, larger seat pitch/widths and extra luggage allowances to name a few. And as we know luggage is not restricted on cruise ships so even better to try and take advantage of packing everything but the kitchen sink which im sure most people will agree try to do!

One way of getting round the extra cost maybe to just to upgrade on one of the legs of the flights. This might also be more helpful if you have an overnight flight and want to arrive at your destination more refreshed and less jet lagged.
